The PhD Programme „History and Cultural Studies“ of the Dahlem Research School of Freie Universität Berlin
Since the winter semester of 2008/2009, the PhD programme „History and Cultural Studies“ of the Dahlem Research School of Freie Universität Berlin has offered German and foreign PhD students with above-average academic credits and excellent potential for scientific achievement and development in a subject in the field of history or cultural science (History, Art History, Ancient Studies, Oriental and East Asian Studies, Jewish Studies, Catholic Theology, Comparative Ethics and Religious Studies) a curriculum structured in specific phases with a transdisciplinary and international context.
Study phases of the PhD Programme „History and Cultural Studies“
The curriculum of the PhD programme comprises research-based, introductory and deeper study phases which are both project-related and transdisciplinary. Moreover, the curriculum imparts transferable skills. The Dahlem Research School offers its PhD students a forum for intensive cross-subject dialogue with the participants of other PhD programmes spanning the entire spectrum of humanities, social and natural sciences as well as early contacts in the national and international scientific community via integration into scientific networks of Freie Universität Berlin.
Languages used in the PhD Programme „History and Cultural Studies“ and Study Abroad
The languages used in the programme are German and English. Depending on the specific target groups, additional languages may be considered. Acceptance to the Dahlem Research School obliges the successful applicant to enrol at Freie Universität Berlin as a PhD student. The standard period of study is six semesters, up to two semesters of which are intended for study abroad.
