Teaching Evaluation

The implementation of systematic teaching evaluations is a central element of the quality development of academics and teaching. Our responsibility to enable quality teaching and the best general framework for students to achieve a final degree successfully is at the system’s core.

In the first place, the superior goals of this departmental concept are to use teaching evaluations as qualified and anonymous feedback on teaching, learning and studying at the Department of History and Cultural Studies. In the second place, the system aims to implement the reciprocal communication processes between teachers, students and administrators at the department.

The wide variety of subjects offered at the department implies a broad range of teaching and training goals, event styles, didactic concepts, and expectations. A multi-dimensional evaluation concept is being developed in order to cope with this complexity.

Partially standardized qualitative survey tools were developed in the period of time between the 2011 and 2014 summer terms and spearheaded in a paper-pencil-procedure. A regular teaching evaluation at the department will be implemented during the 2014/15 winter term.

Depending on your goals, we currently offer these survey tools:

Guidelines and FAQs

We have compiled these notes to simplify the interpretation of the results. The results may give you a basis for choosing adequate modules from the didactic qualification program which is offered for free by the Support für die Lehre project at the FU Berlin.

We recommend discussing the results of a student survey on teaching in a feedback-group. For some useful tips on structuring such gatherings, please follow this link.

For details concerning teaching evaluations, please read our FAQs. We are naturally available in person for your questions or notes.
