Visiting Fellowships at the IKS

Visiting Fellowships are awarded to scholars and researchers from Korea and any other country who wish to contribute to the educational and scholarly goals of the IKS. Each year one or two suitably qualified persons will be elected for one or two semesters (6 or 12 months) of an academic year, beginning in April or October according to the German academic system.

Application Procedure

The following documents all in English should be sent to the IKS (by mail or email):

  • a full curriculum vitae
  • an academic cv including a list of published works
  • the proposed programme of research if elected to the Fellowship
  • a list of possible lectures and seminars which could be held in English or German
  • financial statement

Visiting Fellows’ Entitlements

  • official invitation letter for visa application
  • right to use all university facilities (library, cafeteria, etc.)
  • provision of a desk and access to the campus wide Wi-Fi network
  • a student assistant to help with various administrative procedures which have to be done shortly after arrival

Visiting Fellows’ Duties

  • teaching one course per semester, including students’ guidance
  • taking part in weekly research colloquies as well as other research activities and IKS events
  • In case of fellows from Korea:  on return to their homeland they will automatically become members of the “FUB-IKS Network”. As such, they are expected to serve as mentors for FUB students studying in Korea.

Visiting Fellows’ Election Process

Potential candidates should submit the above mentioned documents to the IKS by the end of April or the end of October respectively, six months ahead of the beginning of the semester (April / October). An FUB Election Committee will decide about the appointment and inform the candidates.
