Theses & Exposés

Exposé:

Prior to official registration for MA thesis, the students are supposed to discusse the topic with the head of the institute, Prof. Alberto Cantera. Although the topic can be discussed informally in a first step, a formal exposé should be submitted in all cases. We recommend the following outline for the exposé:

  • Topic and research question
  • State of research
  • Methodology and implementation
  • Preliminary outline of the thesis
  • Preliminary bibliography: Literature to be used and possibly bibliography of the exposé
  • The synopsis should be 2 to 4 pages long

Formal requirements for MA thesis:

  • 15,000 words
      • = approx. 300 words per page, therefore corresponds to approx. 50 pages (Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.5 lines, margins 3 cm right and left, 2.5 cm top and bottom)
      • including footnotes!
      • excluding cover page, table of contents, bibliography, list of figures, list of illustrations and, if applicable, catalogue/tables.
      • +/- 10% for text are allowed, anything above or below this will lead to deduction of marks
  • Page numbers should start with the text and not with the cover page.
  • Bibliography: alphabetical order by author and year
  • Footnotes: Short quotations in author-year system
  • Captions/credits: Short quotations in author-year system

Please indicate the number of words (including footnotes) at the end of the text of the PDF file and/or submit an additional Word file.
