Dr. Markus Wachowski is the Academic Director of the M.A. Intellectual Encounters of the Islamicate World since November 2013. He already joined the Team of the Research Unit Intellectual History of the Islamicate World in April 2013 as the coordinator of the ERC-project Human Web "The Digital Bab al-Yemen", a project that aims to make all Yemeni manuscripts worldwide accessible via one single internet portal. He studied Religious Studies in Tübingen, Sanaa and Berlin. His Master thesis "Sada in Sana'a. Zur Fremd- und Eigenwahrnehmung der Prophetennachkommen in der Republik Jemen" was published in 2004 (Klaus-Schwarz-Verlag). In 2011 he received his doctorate at Bremen University with his thesis "Rationale Schiiten. Ismailitische Weltsichten nach einer postkolonialen Lektüre von Max Webers Rationalismusbegriff" (De Gruyter). He has been working in the Museum of Islamic Art in Berlin, for the German Archaeological Institute, the Ethnological Museum Berlin, Transparency International and the GIZ.
