Dear all:

We would like to invite you to the following roundtable discussion:

Reading and Writing the Chinese Dream: Research Objectives and Training Methods

A presentation and discussion of the collaborative translation project focusing on contemporary Chinese public intellectuals by two of the project directors (Cheek and Ownby) and one of the collaborative translators (Rocks). The project seeks to provide reliable versions of Chinese public intellectual writings in English and a richer understanding of the audience and worlds of intellectual life in which debates among and between New Left, Liberal, New Confucian and other orientations take place in the Sinophone sphere and PRC society. Central to the project is the process of knowledge production-our effort to create teams of collaborative Sinophone and Anglophone scholars working closely on all the challenges of rendering Chinese discourse into another language.

Timothy Cheek is Professor and Louis Cha Chair in Chinese Research at the University of British Columbia.
