The catalogue of the manuscripts

The preliminary catalogue (see navigation to the left) is prepared after the model of the British Library manuscripts catalogue contained in Salomon 1999 (42-53) with the same sort of reservation due to its preliminary character (ibid.: 42-43). Accordingly, the following information will be included:

  1. General condition: Information about the general form, state of preservation, special features.
  2. Measurements: width x height, lines, Aksharas per line (a/l) (approximate value).
  3. If the scroll is divided into several parts we will give the measurements and line figures of the entire scroll. The data of the single parts can be drawn from the accompanying table. If the original width or length of the scroll is preserved the figures are underlined.
  4. Hands: The script used is ascribed to a particular scribe.
  5. Contents: Short description only. A more detailed description is given just below this summary.

In the cases of long scrolls the fragments are divided into several parts, which are numbered according to the sequence of their documentation. In the process of reconstruction they will be arranged in the correct order while the numbers given here will remain unchanged.

The data presented on this homepage are extracted from the catalogue and survey contained in Strauch 2007.
