BabMed Annual Workshop 1

Diagnosis and Anatomy
October 12-14, 2014

Contact/Organizer: M.J. Geller
Freie Universität Berlin, BabMed – Babylonian Medicine

Anatomy-based diagnosis (specifically related to parts of the human body) is a general theme in Babylonian medicine which we wish to explore in our first BabMed Workshop.
The distinction between anatomy-based (versus non-anatomical) diagnosis is fundamental and goes to the heart of the concept of disease in Babylonia. Diseases are either corporeal (e.g. lung-disease, foot-disease, kidney-disease), or more general, such as fevers or maladies d'esprit (e.g. epilepsy-like diseases, stroke, psychosomatic ailments, etc.).
The purpose of the first BabMed workshop is to explore such distinctions further.
